What do Episcopalians believe?

How we commit to living and being in the world:

With God’s help, we live our our Baptismal Vows as we

  • Renounce spiritual, universal, and personal evil
  • Commit to Jesus Christ; whom we turn to and accept as Savior; we put our whole trust in his grace and love; and promise to follow and obey him as Lord
  • Believe in the Triune God : Father, Son, and Holy Spirit
  • Continue in the teaching handed down and developed by the church, in the fellowship of the church, in receiving the Holy Eucharist, and in a life of prayer
  • Persevere in resisting evil, and whenever we fall into sin, Repent and Return to the Lord
  • Proclaim by word and example the Good News of God in Christ
  • Seek & Serve Christ in all persons, loving our neighbor as ourselves
  • Strive for justice and peace among all people, and Respect the dignity of every human being

How we believe:

We believe that the Sacrament of Holy Baptism is full full initiation by water and the Holy Spirit into Christ’s Body the Church, and that the bond which God establishes in Baptism is indissoluble.

Additionally, Episcopalians affirm and celebrate the foundational nature of an ever-maturing faith guided and informed by

  • The Holy Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments
  • The ancient universal Creeds: The Apostles’ Creed and the Nicene Creed
  • The Dominical Sacraments and sacramental rites
  • The Tradition and Teaching of the Church as handed down through the succession of Bishops

Episcopalians also bind ourselves together even when we hold significant differences of doctrinal opinion, by the usage of the common texts of the Book of Common Prayer

An Outline of the Faith as we understand it may be found in The Catechism in the Book of Common Prayer.
