The Episcopal Church of the Mediator

communications and evangelism Commission

Evangelism is not a dirty word!
Making evangelism Good News again

I promise a minimum of meetings and a maximum of ways to share your ideas and talents.  And, no, you won't have to walk around Allentown in a dark suit handing out tracts.  You can do what you're comfortable doing.  I know not everyone's a website genius or a closet evangelical.  But everyone has something to offer in this arena.  All of us as humans are expert communicators, and all of us as Christians are by definition evangelists.

A little history:  At one time there were two commissions, but their work so overlapped that they were made into one.  That said, if you want to focus on either the evangelism OR the communication part, that's OK.  For example, you may want to help design a flyer or you may want to follow up with visiting a newcomer.  If you even think you might be interested in joining Jo Trepagnier and me (the commission thus far), contact me at the church office (610-434-0155) or mail@episcopalmediator.org.  Put "for Nan" in the subject line.

MEDIA-RITE DEADLINE

The due date for Media-rite articles is the second Tuesday of the month. This date will ensure that newsletters get to homes before the end of the month and before vestry and commission meetings. The newsletter will be mailed on the third Wednesday of each month.

PERSONAL PRIVACY POLICY

Every month, the Media-rite magically transforms from its print version to the Mediator website (www.mediatorepiscopal.org). Some of you know it’s not magic at all; it’s the hands of a parishioner that make this possible. But with electronic transference, the vestry has voiced some concerns about personal privacy.

In addition to providing information to parishioners about schedules, the Church calendar, staff, and events, the purpose of our website is to attract newcomers by describing the parish community and its activities in a way that encourages them to visit and join. The following guidelines have been set by the commission and the vestry.

- When we transfer photos to the website, we will not use any full-face photos of children (including teens through high school). Children will be identified by first names only in captions, text, and the ministry calendar, with a last-name initial if necessary.

- We have created a release form for photographs, on which parents have the option to trust our on-line restrictions to guarantee their children’s privacy or to request that their children’s names and photos be omitted from the web version.

- Adult members of the congregation can call the office to request limited use of their names and photos, or to request that such information be edited out in the web transfer.

- Because they are the contact points for parishioners and potential members of the congregation, members of the vestry, as well as commission chairs and members, will be identified with full names and, when deemed necessary, head shots. We will not post home or office telephone numbers or e-mail addresses on the web. Those wishing to reach any officer of the congregation may direct calls and e-mails to the general number and address of the Church office: (610) 434-0155, mail@episcopalmediator.org, with the person’s name or the committee in the subject line ("For Jane Smith" or "For the Worship Commission").

- Church staff members will be identified with full names, office telephone numbers/extensions, and office e-mail addresses.
